Train ride home
It was an early
evening. The sun just started to set and warm rays of sun were shinning through
the train windows. The train was going steady and every minute Alex was closer
to getting home. His green eyes were focused on the newspaper in hands and he
was really immersed in his reading. It was a story about a local music scene
and what was happening in town.
Even though he was immersed in the paper, he did notice form
the corner of his eye, that beautiful girl sitting on the opposite side of
train. She was reading a book. Which book he couldn’t make out by the way she
was holding it, but whatever it was it must have been really good. She looked
like she was experiencing every emotion character in that book have felt and it
made for an interesting observation. Once she started turning to next page she
noticed him smiling at her. She didn’t know who he was or why he was smiling at
her, yet even though she noticed and was looking back at him, it didn’t seem to
phase him and he kept on smiling. Did he like her? Was it something she was
doing or the book she was reading?
She kept reading without thinking too much about the staring
guy. It was kind of weird and she wasn’t sure what that was about but she did like
his eyes, that deep beautiful green, his charming smile and that innocent face.
The train stopped. A couple in their forties took seats next
to the girl. They couldn’t stop arguing or talking, it was hard to understand
because she didn’t understand the language. It looked like a passionate
conversation or an argument starting out. She gave a smile to a guy watching
her and he smiled back even more. He understood it will be hard reading a book
now.
After that couple got on this train, everything seemed so much
more quieter and it felt like these people don’t see nobody but themselves. At
that point, Alex understood that his special little minute, second is gone but
at least this time he had a girl’s attention and something more was there. This
understanding, this little moment which was just theirs, just this second they
shared alone. She was so beautiful, he never saw anybody this beautiful, so
much so, that he couldn’t stop staring and he was getting embarrassed because
of that.
After what seemed like a second since the last stop, the
train stopped again. This time it was girl’s stop. Alex looked concerned, he
didn’t know what to do. Should he get up and follow but then he will be stuck
on this stop. Should he ask for a number but what if he will keep her from
getting off the train and she will miss her stop but he can’t just let her go.
Who is she? Would be ok to meet up and find out more about each other? He felt like
something was there and he was not willing to let it go.
As she started
heading towards the exit with her book in hand, Alex stood up and approached her.
He opened his mouth to say whatever felt right within the moment and...he
opened his eyes. It was raining outside, seemed like a cold day today. Another
wonderful dream. “Once again nothing more but a dream”-he thought.
